2009 GEMS Alumni Achievement Award Winner - Stephen Corfidi

Steve and Sarah CorfidiMr. Stephen Corfidi (‘81 BS, ‘94 MS), lead forecaster for the NOAA National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center was selected by the Graduates of Earth and Mineral Sciences (GEMS) Alumni Society to receive a 2009 GEMS Alumni Achievement Award. This award is the highest recognition bestowed on an alumnus by GEMS and is given each year to an individual who exemplifies the ideals of the College.

Steve was selected for this award because of his extraordinary forecasting skills, his dedication to the field of meteorology including the preservation of historical severe weather documents, and his service to the Department of Meteorology at Penn State.  Steve received the award and presented a department colloquium on Wednesday, November 18 titled "Revisiting the 3-4 April 1974 Super Outbreak of Tornadoes."  We were very pleased to have Steve back in Happy Valley and to be able to recognize his achievements and his commitment to Penn State Meteorology over the years.  Congratulations Steve!
