Climatologist Ronald Stouffer honored with Penn State Alumni Fellow Award

Ronald J. Stouffer (’76, '77g, Earth and Mineral Sciences) senior research climatologist and head of the Climate and Ecosystems Group at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was honored with the lifelong title of Penn State Alumni Fellow.

"Insects detect odor with olfactory receptors located on their antennae," said Jose D. Fuentes, professor of meteorology, Penn State. "These receptors sense plant-emitted volatile organic compounds in very small amounts -- as low as six molecules hitting an antenna."

Mann receives Conservation Achievement Award

Michael E. Mann, Distinguished Professor of Meteorology and director of Penn State's Earth System Science Center, will receive the National Wildlife Federation's National Conservation Achievement Award for Science on Sept. 25.
