GEMS Alumni Achievement Award Winner - Stephen Corfidi

Mr. Stephen Corfidi (‘81 BS, ‘94 MS), lead forecaster for the NOAA National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center was selected by the Graduates of Earth and Mineral Sciences (GEMS) Alumni Society to receive a 2009 GEMS Alumni Achievement Award. This award is the highest recognition bestowed on an alumnus by GEMS and is given each year to an individual who exemplifies the ideals of the College.

Steve was selected for this award because of his extraordinary forecasting skills, his dedication to the field of meteorology including the preservation of historical severe weather documents, and his service to the Department of Meteorology at Penn State.  He will travel to Penn State to receive the award and present a department colloquium on Wednesday, November 18 titled "Revisiting the 3-4 April 1974 Super Outbreak of Tornadoes."  We are excited to have Steve back in Happy Valley!
