This semester the Ken Reeves Memorial Weather Briefings will continue on
Thursdays at 12:30 PM in the Joel N. Myers Weather Center on the 6th
floor of Walker. For those of you who are new or unfamiliar these
briefings are a great way to keep up with the past, current, and future
weather with the scientific explanations behind it all. Everyone is
invited to attend and only basic meteorological backgrounds are assumed.
The briefings offer more detail than you would receive in a standard
television/online weathercast, but the talks are informal and
questions/commentary are invited and welcomed.
Our first briefing will take place this Thursday (1/22/15) at 12:30 PM
with Rich Grumm presenting. Rich is the Science and Operations Officer
of the State College National Weather Service office. Rich specializes
in high impact weather forecasting and is also the creator of the
Eyewall forecast model website (nws.met.psu.edu) that is hosted through
our department.
The cold pattern that has developed seems to have some potential for
storminess along the US east coast, with many disturbances to keep track
of. Rich will describe the cold, and possibly active outlook.
Date/Time: Thursday (1/22) at 12:30 PM.
Place: Joel N. Myers Weather Center
