As organized linear convective storms develop over land and move over an adjacent coastal ocean, their storm-scale structures, intensity, and associated weather threats evolve. At times, these storms decay at the coastal boundary, while others remain organized bringing severe weather and flash flooding to coastal residents. The successful and unsuccessful coastal crossings of linear storms are associated with unique synoptic-, meso-, and storm-scale features. This presentation will primarily focus on the evolving storm-scale features. More specifically, the dynamics of the interplay between the storm generated density current and the offshore stable marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL), the impact of this interaction on the ascent mechanism supporting the convection, and the potential continued role of the storm’s density current in stable MABL regimes will be discussed.
