Job description

The NOAA/NESDIS STAR Land team cares about the land surface dynamic in earth surface and aims to provide high-quality information for better decision making. This position involves the maintenance, testing, and deployment of Land Surface Remote Sensing products in support of NOAA/NESDIS STAR’s satellite land remote sensing science team for the relevant products development, validation, and monitoring. The primary goal of the job is to help implement the product development plan, communicating with the operational teams, and testing out product application ideas. An analytically-minded researcher who can learn quickly, develop iteratively, and collaborate with team members and engineers are strongly valued. 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in improving the product quality by testing innovations/mitigations.
  • Use a combination of scripting (Python/Shell) and C++/Fortran language in automating the testing, building, and validation of the involved product.
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of an improved version of software to facilitate easy maintenance and robustness.
  • Collaborate with framework developers to adapt software for operational platforms.
  • Practice in applying the land surface products in models

Qualifications:

  • A team player with strong motivation to achieve our team’s science goal
  • PhD in Remote Sensing or Information Technology or Computer Science.
  • Knowledge of software design, development, and debugging principles
  • Knowledge of C++/Fortran/Python language coding
  • Experience with Linux-based computer systems.
  • Experience with remote sensing algorithms and products.
  • Ability to prioritize assigned tasks effectively.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
