Research Scientist: Land Information System

  • Department: UMD/ESSIC 
  • Starting Salary: Commensurate with experience

Duties:

This position will work within the Earth Sciences Directorate of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt. MD 

The Research Scientist will provide support to the continued development of the Land Information System (LIS) framework and the configuration and application of the system for specific applications. The Research Scientist is expected to aid in the specification of the system for several hydrologic applications, including but not limited to customization and adaptation to meet the information needs of the Western U.S.

Qualifications:

Hydrological remote sensing and data assimilation, including but not limited to remote sensing of hydrologic parameters, assimilation of space-borne hydrologic observations, multiscale data assimilation and statistical analysis, and water cycle analysis.  Land surface hydrologic modeling and forecasting, including but not limited to land surface processes and hydrologic downscaling, and short- and long-term hydrologic forecasts of drought.  Collaborative team work.  Ability to communicate results effectively both orally and in written publications.
