Overview:

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a non-profit federally funded research and development center.  IDA provides answers to questions posed by the Department of Defense and other agencies that require careful analysis free of conflict of interest or political bias.  IDA takes great pride in the high caliber and timeliness of its analyses, which are produced in an atmosphere that encourages independent thinking and objective results.

Researchers within the Science and Technology Division (STD) of IDA are highly qualified, self-starting scientists and engineers who advise DoD officials and selected audiences on challenges of national and global significance. We provide independent analytical products to help solve problems facing senior executives and military officials across the Federal government. STD scientists and engineers offer our sponsors insight into technology trends and the impact of emerging advances by bringing rigor to technology readiness assessments and independent perspectives on technology risks and mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities:

The Division has an immediate opening for a Research Associate.  The Research Associate will assist with projects across the full domain of science and technology; therefore applicants should be willing to regularly learn new topics that concern national security. Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills are critical.   Duties will include, but not be limited to, data analysis and visualization, report writing, code development, presentations to disseminate results, or other project-related tasks as directed by the research staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in any physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, preferably including experience with scripting languages such as Python and/or scientific modelling and computational abilities. Experience with cloud computing (e.g. AWS) is a plus.
  • Demonstarted analytical skills, preferably including experience analyzing large datasets and familiarity with geospatial datasets. 
  • Candidates should submit a resume outlining their skill set, experiences, and education.
  • Candidates with a PhD will not be considered.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

U.S. Citizenship is required
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required
