Job description

Quantitative Analyst | Climate

Climate Investment Research and Development Team

Nephila has been in the business of providing access to non-correlated exposure in the catastrophe and climate reinsurance markets for over 20 years. The Nephila Climate team creates innovative solutions to address risk transfer challenges that face the markets and generate a valuable return stream for our investors.  With a consistent capital base of $10B, Nephila continuously looks for new opportunities, including a specific climate risk strategy in 2005 that now has a very strong track record.  Today, as climate change and sustainability become an increasing focus in the markets, there are a lack of agile and innovative ESG focused solutions.  The Nephila Climate team is well positioned and supported to take advantage of the emerging gap by creating investment opportunities that deliver an ESG positive investment.

Nephila has developed a deep platform that has scale and access to a large investible universe.  Nephila also has had a longstanding ESG commitment within the existing businesses.  The Climate team will continue to leverage this broader platform to set the market standard for developing, structuring, and transferring Climate Risk to a diversified capital base. Our unique offering to counterparties and risk partners is a consultative approach that gives them access to scalable capital and more creative, flexible structures than the traditional market, that ultimately match their needs.  Critical to our future success is our ability to implement an early deal flow assessment process that is agile, innovative and considers possibilities.  This role will be key to that success.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create and support quantitative models and analyses for new and existing products that appropriately balance precision and speed
  • Assess the validity and rigor of new data sources and methods
  • Consider creative solutions to evaluate ESG/Impact opportunities where “traditional” data sets and methods do not exist
  • Create high quality and easy to understand research using advanced statistical techniques that evolve our processes and ways of thinking; ultimately improving portfolio returns

  • Analytical; can evaluate multiple sets of data and connect dots across them and understand problems from many different angles
  • Can navigate ambiguity and possesses a natural curiosity
  • Results driven, takes a high degree of ownership
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Our Ideal Candidate will have had experience working in a professional environment, specifically problem solving through quantitative analysis, and will also have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field
  • 2+ years of experience in capital markets
  • Basic programming skills in Python or a similar research language

Nephila offers competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications in addition to an attractive benefits package, including employer-paid health insurance, pension, daily in-office lunch, and wellness benefits.
