Job description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher/research scientist position in aerosol-cloud interactions in the GESTAR-II at UMBC and NASA GSFC in Maryland, US.

Project description

Our project aims to study aerosol-cloud interactions using remote sensing and in-situ data from ground based, airborne, and spaceborne platforms as well as modeling (e.g., LES). Specifically, our team have created a unique dataset of opportunistic experiments such as ship-tracks and initially the project will focus on analyzing such samples. The successful candidate will analyze how different environmental conditions affect cloud responses to aerosols, characterize each factors contribution in determining cloud adjustments and quantify the radiative effects of cloud adjustments. The candidate will collaborate with teams from the Colorado State University (Prof. Christine Chiu), the University of Washington (Prof. Robert Wood), and NASA GSFC.

Required qualifications

A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, or a related discipline. The candidate is expected to conduct independent scientific research, show reasonable programming skills (e.g., in Python), and have strong interest in the research topic.

Salary and benefits

~ $70-100,000/year (depending on qualifications)

Expected start date

January 1, 2024 (flexible)

Term

Up to three years
