Job description

Meteorologist & Territory Manager

About the Company:
The THOR GUARD Lightning Prediction Systems has been manufactured in South Florida since 1973. Over the ensuing years, representing literally millions of hours of accurate and safe operations, THOR GUARD has consistently proven its reliability. THOR GUARD uses a highly sophisticated sensor and computer to measure and analyze the electrostatic field in the atmosphere. Lightning originates within this field, thus allowing THOR GUARD to make calculations predicting its occurrence, even though there may be no visible evidence of lightning. Lightning "detection" systems require the occurrence of an actual lightning strike before a warning is given. Many times this is just too late.  We predict lightning because every thunderstorm has a first strike!

Job Description:
We are looking for a Territory Manager in the Midwest in the United States, preferably in OH, IN, MI or IL.  A Territory Manager at Thor Guard entails sales and maintenance of new and existing systems within this territory.  Working outside and able to install systems on rooftops, posts, etc. would be an excellent quality to have. When performing the sales side of the job, you must be able to drive and meet with potential customers on site and quickly determine the best locations for our systems to perform at the customer's location given all the variables required such as best view of the sky, internet connection, power, centrality of property, feasibility of install, future access, etc.  Presentations to boards and other potential customers will be necessary. Installation of equipment varies depending on install, but having proficiency with power tools and working with your hands will make this job easier. There will be proper training for each new Territory Manager, both at our offices and at customers within this Territory. Understanding of the country club environment would be useful as well for our golf course customers.

We are ideally looking for this new Territory Manager to be a Meteorologist.  Each year during the late Spring, Summer and early Fall, we have a team of meteorologists that forecast the weather at golf events.  Domestic travel is required for this part of the job. Working 12-18 hours days, forecasting before 5 AM til after 9 PM can happen. At our events we set up and take down our temporary Thor Guard installation, weather station and weather camera by ourselves.  Like the Territory Manager portion of the job, this requires quick thinking, climbing ladders, carrying heavy equipment, etc. when arriving and departing each golf event. We usually travel with laptops and tablets to forecast onsite and work out of clubhouses and trailers.  Communicating the forecast, both long and short range, in person and over hand radios is important. Familiarity and/or love of golf would again be another plus to any candidate. Most often we travel for 8-10 days at a time, several times during the Summer. There would also be onsite training for this portion of the job as well with our team at several events.  This job is a juggling act of keeping up with your territory at home and accurately forecasting the weather at golf events.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology
  • Able to work with ladders, on rooftops and do installation work
  • Confident nowcasting and forecasting for golf events
  • Good communication, problem solving and computer skills
