National Weather Forecasting, LLC

Job description

We are located at beautiful and dynamic Teterboro Airport (KTEB). We are private weather consulting firm specializing in storm warning services to a variety of clients, both in the private and government sector. Since 1985, National Weather Forecasting, LLC has provided top level of service to clients that are impacted by the weather. We also provide to aviation interests in the helicopter area of aviation.

Job Description: Make forecasts for our clients which range from DPW’s/Highway Departments to School Districts and private contractors who use our daily and storm forecasting service. We also provide to helicopter interests and we will train you in both storm forecasting and helicopter weather forecasting. Our client base is mainly within a 100 mile radius of New York City which covers mountainous areas as well as the coastal plain which makes many of our “winter” forecasts especially challenging so you have to know your “stuff”. Synoptic meteorology was hopefully one of your favorite courses in school! ☺ NOTE: the hours initially may be “part time” in the order of 20-30 hours per week, but may lead to full time depending on your performance. Candidates must reside within driving distance to Northeastern New Jersey, which means, the lower Hudson Valley, northwestern and central New Jersey, southwestern CT and NYC area. Anyone east of NYC (on Long Island) would pose a commuting problem at times.

Schedule: Job openings immediate and dependent on phone interview followed by in-person interview… Hours of operations; 24/7 but your hours will mainly be any combination between the hours of 6AM and 5PM…some weekends and holidays/overnights required. Only 20-30 hours per week initially which may lead to full time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology
  • Strong understanding of weather processes and forecasting techniques with a strong hold in synoptic meteorology
  • Ability to forecast for snow and ice clients but will train
  • Working knowledge of all “actual data” such as metars, sat and rad imagery, surface and upper level maps and computer model data.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the METAR code and surface obs.
  • Willing to learn how to deal with aviation/helicopter clients.
  • Good oral, written and personal communication skills
  • Must know computer usage well.
