Job description

Greetings Penn State!

WIBW-TV in Topeka Kansas is searching for 2 full time meteorologists.
We prefer a meteorology degree, but it’s not 100% required for the right talent.
Gray TV is our parent corporation... and they have set a minimum wage at $18 an hour.
We get a ton of tornado coverage in April/May/June typically.
WIBW-TV is #1 in local ratings, and we absolutely dominate ratings during severe weather.

Kansas Tornado events tend to happen during the daylight hours.  This allows us to spot Wall Clouds, Shelf Clouds and Tornadoes from our network of weather cameras, quite frequently.  A resume video to jump from WIBW in a few years can include tornado coverage and even blizzards at times.

I want/need go getters in our spots.  Bring your drive and ideas and don’t be afraid to try new things here.  We have been early adopters in many venues, but technology changes.  I want people working with me who lean forward and want to push the technology opportunities.  I want people with ideas who will work with me, learn from me… but not be afraid to teach me and show me their ideas as well.

We have a ton of newscasts at WIBW-TV.
Weekday AM/Noon/4/5/6/9/10PM newscasts.
Weekend has 3 morning shows as well as two each evening.
Our morning meteorologist has about 4 weeks off each year, and I have another 5 weeks off myself.  We also get all the standard holidays off.  Did I mention that Gray TV is amazing?
There are PLENTY of opportunities for the right folks to fill here in Topeka.

If you haven’t been to Topeka… we have almost 200,000 people in the county.  Kansas City is less than 1 hour away on I-70.

If you have questions contact

Jon Janes is the news director.  I have been working with him for 2 decades.
