Job description

The University of Maryland / Cooperative Institute for Satellite Earth System Studies (UMD/CISESS) is looking for a talented and self-motivated candidate to start a new and promising career supporting the research, development, and transition projects funded by the NOAA satellite programs (such as the Joint Polar Satellite System). Responsibilities include supporting the science team lead in coordinating the project progress reporting from several project teams, documenting and tracking the accomplishments, schedule and milestones, new opportunities, assisting in planning resource needs; The incumbent is encouraged to conduct collaborative research with NOAA scientists within the scope of NOAA satellite programs in general, and data quality assurance in particular, present research results at conferences, and publish in journals.  This position requires occasional travel to both domestic and international destinations to present at meetings and conferences.  This is a multiple-year position with good potential for promotion, subject to annual performance evaluation and renewal.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree (or above) in physical sciences (including STEM)
  • Excellent skills with the use of spreadsheets (Excel and Google scripting) for project tracking
  • Experience in using Python, R, or similar programming languages for data processing and analysis
  • Proficient in verbal and written English, and presentation skills
  • Experience in processing satellite data, machine learning/artificial intelligence is a plus
  • Experience in leadership and teamwork is a plus

U.S. citizenship or Permanent resident (Green Card holder) is required.
