The Data Analyst (International Strategy) – Location Management focuses on integrating location-based data into AccuWeather’s corporate location management database. As a member of the location management team, this position will interface with internal and external customers to produce high quality datasets used by many of AccuWeather’s industry leading products. This position will focus primarily on updates, maintenance, and integration of new data for our international strategy projects. Specific areas of focus will include but not be limited to China and South Korea. Close coordination with AccuWeather’s international teams and country managers will be required.

Job description

The Data Analyst (International Strategy) – Location Management focuses on integrating location-based data into AccuWeather’s corporate location management database.  As a member of the location management team, this position will interface with internal and external customers to produce high quality datasets used by many of AccuWeather’s industry leading products.  This position will focus primarily on updates, maintenance, and integration of new data for our international strategy projects.  Specific areas of focus will include but not be limited to China and South Korea.  Close coordination with AccuWeather’s international teams and country managers will be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compare new source datasets with existing data to determine which locations need to be added/updated/removed.
  • Update metadata for existing locations.
  • Work with the technical account managers to incorporate changes/suggestions made by our high priority partners.
  • Communicate with AccuWeather country managers and other international teams to update and maintain country specific spatial and attribute datasets.
  • Research and recommend modifications based off of customer and client feedback.
  • Write and maintain documentation regarding location-based data.

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in a science or technology field is required, but BS in Geography or IST preferred
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts
  • Comfortable working with datasets involving Political Geography
  • Required technical skills:
    • Experience using GIS toolkits such as ESRI’s ArcMap
    • Ability to write T-SQL queries to aide in data comparisons and update tables
    • Excellent data management skills
    • Knowledge of relational databases
  • Additional technical skills desired, but not required:
    • Experience using Model Builder in ESRI’s ArcMAP
    • Python
    • Understanding of map projections and coordinate systems pertaining to Asia
  • Understanding of languages and cultures as it pertains to location information, with a preferred emphasis on Chinese and Korean cultures
  • Ability to work with and understand datasets that are in multiple languages
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Capable of explaining solutions to problems and questions in both a technical and non-technical fashion
