Job description
Duties:
This position supports the 18-24 month Applied Sciences Climate & Resilience project within the Earth Science Division at NASA GSFC.
• Establish regular, dedicated engagement with local planning entities throughout Prince George’s County and engage city planners to help them quantify their risk by neighborhood
• Survey climate preparedness, e.g. around flood risk, and the information needed to build infrastructure resilience through a market survey or needs assessment
• Report on findings from surveying local communities
• Interface with local decision-makers to prioritize infrastructure planning decisions that require climate information and work with them to co-produce a solution
• Interface with applied sciences researchers and data systems to deliver the best-fit NASA product or product resulting from collaboration with First Street Foundation
• Engage relevant partners, e.g. green energy transition by State of Maryland and UMD Maryland Mesonet
• Track similar activities by other agencies to ensure that we share resources and best practices and do not duplicate effort
• Report on solutions co-produced with local communities
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have experience in climate adaptation, especially relevant to hydrology, excellent communication skills, and an interest in informing sustainable infrastructure decisions.
