Job Summary

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder conducts collaborative research with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). CIRES is accepting applications for a Data Manager - Professional Research Assistant to work with the World Data Service for Paleoclimatology. The successful applicant will be responsible for a variety of duties related to managing paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic data received from scientists worldwide and making these data publicly available and reusable. Ideal applicants will have experience both in working with environmental data and in programming and working with databases. The ability to work collaboratively within a team of research scientists, data managers, and database/software developers is a must.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and use code to reformat datasets and improve their reusability for the scientific community.
  • Contribute to team efforts to develop code that automates processes for ingesting new paleoenvironmental data contributions into a database.
  • Augment, update, and quality control a paleoenvironmental database through both manual and programmatic data entry.
  • Collaborate with team scientists to create science products from paleoenvironmental data that inform decision-makers and the general public.

Required

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences or other scientific or technical fields. 
  • Experience programming in one or more of the following languages: R, Python, SQL.
  • Experience working with environmental, geologic, or climatic data.
