The Team:

  • The Model Success team is part of RMS’ broader Customer Success organization. This role is within the Model Specialist team that sits within Model Success.
    • We are a highly collaborative group with members located across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the US.
    • Members of the Model Specialist team are responsible for supporting RMS clients across the globe in their successful usage and understanding of the full suite of RMS catastrophe models and associated products.
    • Our aim is to drive high client satisfaction across all existing models and products, and to facilitate the adoption of new or updated models via education and advisory support and services.
    • We work closely with colleagues in other teams within Customer Success and across the wider business (e.g., Model Development, Product Management, Event Response) to set our clients up for success.

The Position: 

This role is based in the Hoboken, New Jersey and will report to the US Model Specialist Manager. The key responsibilities are as follows: 

  • Resolve varied and interesting client requests relating to the full range of RMS models and products
  • Typical timeframes range from hours to a few weeks
  • Requires a mix of research, problem-solving, model data analysis/interpretation and troubleshooting
  • Work alongside experienced colleagues to resolve more complex requests
  • Act as the first point of contact for incoming client requests and communicate directly with clients to progress requests
  • Continuously improve your skills and knowledge in the following areas (prior knowledge not required)
  • RMS catastrophe models - the science behind them, how to use the associated software, interpreting their output
  • Relevant data manipulation tools, such as Microsoft SQL Server, a coding language (R) and mapping software (QGIS)
  • How our clients in the (re)insurance industry use RMS catastrophe models and products 

You may also be required to contribute towards client trainings, internal knowledge sharing and improving client self-serve materials. 

Your first few months will predominantly be focused on learning via a mix of classroom and on-the-job training. Over the next few years, as you progress in your career within the team, you will have the opportunity to attain more specialized knowledge in a subset of topic areas and take on more responsibility in the following areas:

  • Resolving more complex requests, which may involve working directly with Subject Matter Experts in other teams
  • Leading the facilitation of client training sessions and handling more sensitive client communications
  • Helping more junior team members to develop and coordinating client work that involves multiple contributors
  • Providing deeper levels of input into larger client project work (weeks to a few months timeframe)

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Possess a BS/MS/PhD or equivalent degree in one of the following disciplines or a related field:
  • Earth/Climate Sciences (Geology, Geophysics, Seismology, Meteorology etc.)
  • Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering
  • Risk Management, Insurance
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)  

This is an entry level role. Prior experience working in customer service or working with RMS catastrophe models is helpful, but not required.
